In recent years the Mexican cuisine has greatly increased in popularity. Many restaurants have installed in Madrid to introduce this unique gastronomy to the capital. If one has caught our eye, it has been Puntarena.
Puntarena is installed inside Casa Mexico, the cultural centre of Mexico in Madrid. The centre counts with fantastic expositions of the traditional Mexican culture. You may find sculptures, altars (most recently for "El Día De Los Muertos"), jewellery and much more. Therefore, Puntarena is not only a restaurant but an invitation to understand Mexican culture both through dishes and through art.
The establishment counts with a petite patio ideal for autumn days. The restaurant also has a warm and ample structure that will make you feel welcome at all moments. If you want to impress family, friends or clients it is a great choice.
We highly recommend speaking to the service and asking for the house specialties. When our representative reviewed the restaurant, she was offered a variety of dishes outside the menu that as she stated "I didn't even have to look at the menu, the waiter automatically understood what we wanted and it was all delicious". You may find fish cooked in different sauces, tacos, tender roasted meats, fabulous little bites and of course a range of drinks. The establishment counts with a bar from which it is possible to order almost any type of cocktail.
★★★★☆
Even though the experience was fabulous the restaurant unfortunately had some problems with the reservation and lost it. However, the staff offered their help and we were able to get a table.
COVID-19
- The tables are adequately placed 2 meters a part.
- The service always wears masks.
- They have a patio which is helpful.
However,
- The lack of ventilation in the main salon makes it unsafe for covid.
- There are a lot of people in the same space which increases the risk of infection.
Recommendations:
We would like to share a few tips to make the experience even better:
- Book a few days in advance and preferably through call or the website.
- Book a table in the terrace if possible, especially now during covid-19 pandemic.
- Bring a coat to the terrace in winter, its may cold.
